The lyrics for ‘So High’ are a little play on ‘love’ being a drug. There’s nothing that can quite replicate the feeling of the high that comes with it!
The musical Inspiration for 'So High' came from the production styles of beat based music makers like FKJ and Hermitude.
During the production process I kicked it off with a wonky kinda straight/kinda shuffle beat. The piano thing is a bit of a Dr Dre throwback I guess. Love the 90’s era Hip Hop.
The bass line was literally the 1st thing that I played on my new Moog (which I purchased during the lockdowns) and it stuck. With some gentle Rhodes in the back it was feeling alright.
Once I'd settled on the the pocket of the track I already had my mate, incredible musician and vocalist, Rob Edwards in mind for the vocal.
I really enjoy soulful melodies and harmonised vocals. Rob has an islander background and there’s a particular soulful character that comes with that and its just magic!
Rob and I have worked together and been mates for years so the session was all creativity and vibe.
I also had some of my other talented mates come into the studio to lay down some instrumental parts. Rob Ewan (bass) and Bret Hunt (Guitar) These guys are so good and generous with their time and support for my original projects. It’s always a funny studio hang too…
